Happy Sunday Funday! I hope the weekend is treating you well! It’s been a busy one for us again! I had my annual studio dance recital yesterday morning, and my students were fabulous! I love seeing all of the dancers shine on stage- they’ve all worked so hard over the course of the year! Proud moment! After the recital, the hubs and I went to the Blue Point Brewery’s Toasted Tour at Patriot’s Point. SO FUN (especially with VIP tickets- heeyyyyy now!) We drank delish beer, played lawn games, and jammed out to local bands. We had a lovely walk on the beach after the festival. I love this time of year, it’s not too hot and the beaches aren’t too crowded yet…sometimes it feels like you have your own private beach! The water is almost warm enough to take a swim!  ALMOST.

My Mom came in town to babysit our son this weekend, and it had me thinking about more Mother’s Day gift ideas. I posted a guide on Instagram on Friday, but wanted to give just a few more ideas! I always give special pics of our son or family pics to the Moms and G-mas, BUT I like to also give something they can use to pamper themselves, or something to keep their wardrobe current. I’ve linked a few items below (and may need to drop a couple of hints to my hubby!!) I hope it’s helpful for you and most items are under $75!

The first three items feature pineapples. Pineapples are a symbol of friendship, and there’s no better friend than your Momma!

  • Target Pineapple Pillow- $16 It’s a known fact that Moms love any and all throw pillows.
  • BaubleBar Pineapple Studs- $32 These are so dainty and fun! Great summer stud!
  • Pineapple Pouch -$58 SO cute and versatile. Comes in 4 colors!
  • Clinique Sonic Skin Care System- $89.50  She may already have a skin care system that she uses, but if not, Mother’s Day is a great time to gift something she can use to pamper herself! This set includes the 3 step skin care (personalized for your skin type) along with the Sonic Care Purifying Cleansing Brush.
  • Sephora Lipstick Jungle Brush Set and pouch/clutch- $54 This set comes with 5 essential brushes and the bag can totally double as a little clutch. This brush set is superior quality. It’s always a good idea to have extra brushes on hand -and how cute is that bag? NEED!
  • I Woke Up Like This Mug- $27.99 I love this coffee mug! Queen Bey can do no wrong, and what better way to conquer your day than to drink your coffee feeling FLAWLESS!
  • Love x Style x Life by Garance Dore- $30 This book is a favorite of mine. It’s a stylish, honest, funny and inspirational story of Love, Style, and Life from famous fashion blogger, Garance Dore. She has a really special gift for storytelling, and this book would be a fabulous summer read! And then a pretty bookshelf/coffee table addition.
  • Becca Coverup Kimono at Nordstrom-$68 Update her summer wardrobe! Love this kimono/swim coverup. Super chic and on trend with the tassels.
  • ASOS Fruit Loop Pom Sandals- $28 (2 colors- FANTASTIC price point) I’m obsessed with these metallic pom pom sandals!

Several other kimomo/coverup styles and sandals:

  • Nume Curling Wand- $139– I have the 25mm wand and it is seriously the BEST curl wand I’ve ever used. It’s easy to use and heats up quickly. Use the code MOMSALE for 60% off and free shipping!
  • Modcloth- Carryall of the above bag- $70– The cutout style of this bag is so trendy, and I love the mint color. It will seriously go with anything and everything for the spring and summer. It features a zippered bag inside the tote for high functioning organization on the go!
  • Alex & Ani Mom Swarovski Crystal Set- $78 – This is the perfect set to begin her collection (or add to it!) She’s sure to appreciate the meaning behind this special gift-  they stand for Generosity*Heroism*Love.
  • Peter Grimm Erin Floppy Hat- Kohl’s $30 – This hat comes in 4 colors and is perfect for the beach or pool! She’ll be looking chic in the shade while protecting her face from the sun, and maybe reading her new Garance Dore book!?!
  • Kendra Scott Emily Necklace- $295 ON SALE for $178  Can’t go wrong with a statement necklace. The Emily necklace is GORGEOUS and comes in 3 colors! I love the bright summer colors and the geometric shape of the jewels on the bib neck. Very trendy and she could easily dress up classics in her existing wardrobe with this one necklace. Here is another budget friendly option from Bauble Bar that will also make an impact and dazzle her! BaubleBar Seaglass Bib $68 (comes in 3 colors, too!)
  • Kendra Scott Danielle Earrings- Magenta $60 – This style comes in SO many colors, you could pick her favorite color and she’ll be sure to love them! I have the red, and they are the perfect earring. I love the simple design, yet they are so classic, well made, and beautiful.
  • Stella & Dot Nolita Crossbody- Raffia Fringe $69 This bag is super versatile. It’s wallet sized, so she can throw in her bag for day and then for night, add the crossbody strap and off she goes!

A few more gift ideas are Birchbox, Ipsy, and Stitch Fix monthly subscriptions. This is the gift that keeps on giving year round. It’s something that you could start this Mother’s Day and renew from year to year! My personal favorites are the Birchbox and Ipsy. I have several friends that receive Stitch Fix and absolutely love that as well. Birchbox specifies in skin and hair care, while Ipsy focuses more on makeup and nails (and you get a “glam bag” each month.) Each month you’ll receive sample (sometimes larger) sizes of personalized items based on your preferences in your account profile. It’s so fun to try new products and find new favorites that you’d never discover otherwise. Both of these are $10/ month each. Stitch Fix provides hand-picked items from a personal stylist delivered right to your door. Perfect for someone who flat-out doesn’t have time to shop. You can specify delivery timeframes at your convenience (monthly, every 6 weeks, whenever you request a box, etc) and also specify if you need help shopping for a particular type of garment (gown for an event or cocktail dress for a wedding.) Stitch Fix is $20 a month, which is then applied to anything you decide to keep! You also get a 25% discount for purchasing all of the items in your box.

You could always take her to a nice dinner at her favorite restaurant, get her a relaxing spa day or massage/facial, or have a fun experience together (tix to a ballet, play, concert, maybe a bed and breakfast getaway weekend.) The list goes on and on! I hope these ideas were helpful! No matter what you get her, she’ll love it because it’s from her baby! My son brings me “gifts” all the time (dead leaves gathered into a bouquet…sometimes real flowers if I’m lucky haha!, beetles, snails, worms) and as much as the creepy crawlies make me squirm, I love it because I know he was thinking about me!

Until next time✌️|Stay styled, sugarplum! 💋

This is going be a whopper of a beauty post! Makeup tools, Birchbox, and ipsy: OH MY!

First, I’m going to share 3 of my favorite makeup essentials in my tool kit from IT Cosmetics. I was introduced to this brand through a sample of mascara from ipsy one month, and I was quickly hooked on some of their other products. I love and appreciate that their products are cruelty free and they stand by that policy- that’s super important to me! The first tool kit essential is a 3-in-1 Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm called, Bye Bye Makeup. I love it because it cleans off your makeup, and leaves your skin feeling super hydrated and so soft. Over time, I’ve seen a huge difference in the overall hydration level of my skin (along with my daily moisturizing regimen.) I tend to get really dry skin in the winter, and this wasn’t an issue last season! 🎉 I know it has me covered for the summer, too. Next, two brushes that I can’t live without. The first is the Heavenly Luxe Powder Brush. I use this for blush and bronzer, since I use a liquid powder for foundation. This is one of the softest brushes ever created…EVER…and there is good weight to the handle. You have full, even control over your application. Lastly, is the Heavenly dual airbrush. I use the larger side for highlighter, and the smaller side for contouring my eyeshadow on my upper eyelids/brow bone. Both of these brushes are a wonderful investment for your makeup tool kit, and will last a long time when cleaned regularly! I wash my blush/bronzer brush biweekly, and my other brushes once a month. I use my son’s baby shampoo (shhh, don’t tell)- it’s Babyganics frangrance free shampoo+body wash. I’ll wash and let dry overnight. TIP- If your brushes get really cakey, you can use a tiny dab of olive oil to break it down!

NEXT UP- Birchbox and ipsy hooked it up for April! (Very rarely am I disappointed.) I’ve been receiving both monthly for about a year now, and I’m a huge fan. I love how the items are hand picked and catered to me- so many items have become favorites of mine! Some are sample size, but mostly they are very generous in size, and end up lasting a while. For $10 a month each, you seriously can’t beat it.

BIRCHBOX

  • Tocca hand cream in Green Tea/Lemon- This product is paraben free and has a very light smell to it- it’s just enough without choking you to death. I can’t stand that in hand creams! This is some of the best I’ve ever used, and I’m not exaggerating. It made my hands feel like they had a paraffin wax treatment until the next day! You can use sparingly, a little goes a long way! Full size: $10| My rating: 10/10
  • The Beauty Crop PB&J Smoothie Stick in Guava Nice Day- Super cute pink color that goes on smooth (contains almond oil…yummm), and has a slight fruity fragrance. Basically, I wanted to make out with myself. Full size: $14.95| My rating: 10/10
  • Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask- LOVED this one for my hair. No parabens, silicones, or phthalates, and has a slightly floral smell, but not overpowering. Use it after you shampoo and leave on for 5-10 min, rinse and then it’s showtime. I have naturally curly, slightly course hair, and this left it silky smooth. Full size: $26| My rating: 10/10
  • Marcelle New Age 8-in-1 Power Serum- I wasn’t all that impressed with this one, but I do like that it’s paraben free, hypoallergenic, and perfume free. I feel like it only hydrated temporarily, and didn’t have the lasting effect I’d expect from a serum. I used it daily for a week straight, and didn’t see a huge change. Possibly over a longer period of time? Full size:$36| My rating: 5/10
  • IPKN Moist and Firm Beauty Balm SPF 45- This is not something that I would use daily, BUT it is a PERFECT base for beach/pool days. It will leave your skin looking flawless with the protective coverage of an SPF, without feeling like you have a full face of makeup. It’s very light, and packed with vitamin E and collegen. Nourish and Firm- me likey!  I will definitely be using it for the summer! Full size: $35 My rating 8/10.

ipsy

First of all, one of the cutest bags yet (I say that every month!😝) But seriously, loving the bright color tie dye, and totally using this in my beach bag for our phones or face sunscreens.

  • pūr~lisse Blue Lotus+Seaweed Treatment Sheet Mask- I love these crazy hydrating masks. I received two of them and definitely looking forward to using the second when I feel like my skin needs a boost. It’s like a mega moisture tsunami on your face. It’s helpful to do this weekly/biweekly throughout the year (BUT especially in the summer and winter), so your skin doesn’t shrivel up from the harsh elements. *Sidenote: I always feel like Damian from Meal Girls when he wears the lunch meat on his face…  BUT it’s worth it! HAHA!  I’ll spare you a picture reference, but if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you have to look it up! Full price: $36 for 6 My rating: 10/10
  • Adesse NEW YORK Organic Infused Nail Lacquer Gel Effect- The color is called Irina, and it’s a really pretty summer grey. At times, there’s a lavender tint to it depending on the light. It’s very pretty! Goes on smooth and it has lasted three days now, despite how much I use/wash my hands. (I did use Essie Gel Setter as a top coat.) Adesse products are cruelty-free, vegan formulas with no crazy chemicals, which is really cool! Full price:$18 My rating: 8/10
  • tarte Lip Surgence Lip Crème in wonder (poppy)- REALLY pretty color. It’s more of a red/pink than the lip color I received in Birchbox, and this also has more of a minty smell and menthol sesation on your lips. It feel more like a hydrating chapstick rather than just a lip color. Another two thumbs up! Full price: $24 My rating: 10/10
  • City Color Highlight Trio- I like this because you have the option to contour a bit more with three highlighting options. If we were talking hair, this would be your highlights and your lowlights. The difference shades and finishes allow you to highlight the T zone and cheeckbones, while defining under the apple of your cheek and down your jawbone. I really liked it. It makes highlighting a bit simpler having every shade in one compact. Laura Geller is still my favorite, but this is a really close runner up! Full price- $8.99 My rating: 8/10

I hope you enjoyed some of my favorite tools AND my April Birchbox/ipsy reviews, they really hit it out the park this month! I’d love to hear some of your favorites, and what you thought if you received some of the same products!

Until next time✌️| Stay styled, sugarplum! 💋

IMG_7503I’m a self proclaimed makeup mad scientist. It probably stems from having to apply heavy stage makeup, false eyelashes, and the “works” for dance performances all my life. I’ve always loved creating and experimenting with dramatic looks, colors, and new techniques. Let’s just say my girlfriends were reallyyyyy good sports through the years. During my gothic phase in middle school, I gave them some very questionable “makeovers” and style advice …trial and error, right?? However, one thing is tried, true, and tested: the essential products in my makeup bag. We’re talking everyday, practical, can’t live without products that have been must-haves in my makeup bag for years. To be honest, I try to keep backups on hand because my anxiety spikes when I get low on inventory!  Whether they are drug store finds, from department stores or specialty retailers, these 5 items are my top picks and have a permanent spot in my heart and makeup bag. Each bullet ahead is a shopable link! 😉   View Post
