Happy October y’all! Ooooweee, I cannot express how excited I am for Fall! It’s definitely my favorite season for so many reasons. First off, I love Halloween. Like, LOOOOOVE Halloween. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of wearing costumes for all of my dance recitals and performances when I was growing up, but Halloween is a big deal around here and it’s a family affair. Last year, we dressed up as Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. Yep. Turned out we were the ONLY adults dressed up at the Halloween Festival. Slightly embarrassing, but Lawson loved it and I’m going to continue to keep the spirit of Halloween alive! I love themed costumes (that’s probably the sorority girl in me)…and this year is no different! 28 days to go, but who’s counting?!?
Reason #2: I’m obsessed with pumpkin everything…lattes, muffins, candles, spices, those little mellowcreme pumpkins (gimmie all the sugar), and home decor. Speaking of decorating…I’ve got to get on that ASAP! That means a trip to the pumpkin patch. That has definitely become a family tradition for us since Lawson was born. We go every year and pick out a Daddy, Mommy, and baby pumpkin. A little pumpkin family! Reason #12 why Fall is grand: Clemson football! They’re off to a fantastic start of the season, especially after their big W last weekend! Go Tigers!
Reason #35: There’s a different feel to the air…it’s crisp, cool and less humid. My hair thanks you Fall air! Once September phases out, I’m totally over the summer heat…aka my own personal frizzy hair party and melty make-up train wreck. #southernstruggles
Reason #78: October is the start of a constant marathon of some of the best movies of all TIME. Hocus Pocus being one of them. And even though I’ve turned into a scaredy cat in my 30s, I’m still a horror movie junkie. I love all the cult classics…Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Poltergeist…What’s your favorite scary movie? *Obviously spoken in the voice of Ghost Face from Scream*
Okay, okay so you get it. I love October…but hands down the absolute best thing about Fall is the fashion. I’m obsessed with the trends of this season, and as the temps cool down, I can’t wait to incorporate more of the luxe fabrics (velvet especially), scarf styles, and boots/booties into my everyday looks.
The featured look today is geared for early Fall. If you follow me on Instagram (@styledsugarplum), you’ve seen a few looks I’ve shared lately that are all versatile, lightweight fabric choices for days that are a bit warm, but cool off quickly when night falls. The day I shot this look, it was 84 degrees during the day, then cooled down to 69 at night, and this dress transitioned so well throughout the change in temperature. Also, pattern mixing is such a fun way to add more dimension to an ensemble. I love adding leopard to any sort of black and white, whether it be stripes, polka dots, or plaid like my dress. The plaid shirtdress from Old Navy is under $35, and on sale for under $30 today with the code ENJOY. It also comes in two other colors.  I have linked a ton of other plaid dress favorites below.  I consider it a fall/winter wardrobe staple. As the temps drop, you can pair with a vest or moto jacket, scarf, leggings and booties for an effortless and functional cold weather look.
I also snagged these lace-up flats from Old Navy (only $26 and under $20 with the code!) Lace-up flats are FIRE right now and they remind me of lacing up my pointe shoes in my dancing days. The ballerina trend is going to be big for Fall- I welcome it with open arms! Give me all the lace-ups, wraps and tulle skirts!
I accessorized with this leopard Sole Society clutch from Nordstrom (only $40), which unfortunately already sold out!! Ahhh I’m sorry, don’t hate me! BUT, have no fear… I have linked several similar styles below at every price point and I’ll notify you via Instagram when they restock! For jewelry, I kept it simple with BaubleBar Bliss Drops in tortoise shell (comes in 3 colors and on sale for $20), a black and gold watch from Nordstrom (on sale for $12), and Loft mirrored sunnies. Shop my look below! Hope you have a fantastic week and I’ll be back in a few days with my September Birchbox/ipsy favorites and another Fall look! Until next time✌️️|Stay styled, sugarplum!💋
