5 Makeup Bag Must-Haves

IMG_7503I’m a self proclaimed makeup mad scientist. It probably stems from having to apply heavy stage makeup, false eyelashes, and the “works” for dance performances all my life. I’ve always loved creating and experimenting with dramatic looks, colors, and new techniques. Let’s just say my girlfriends were reallyyyyy good sports through the years. During my gothic phase in middle school, I gave them some very questionable “makeovers” and style advice …trial and error, right?? However, one thing is tried, true, and tested: the essential products in my makeup bag. We’re talking everyday, practical, can’t live without products that have been must-haves in my makeup bag for years. To be honest, I try to keep backups on hand because my anxiety spikes when I get low on inventory!  Whether they are drug store finds, from department stores or specialty retailers, these 5 items are my top picks and have a permanent spot in my heart and makeup bag. Each bullet ahead is a shopable link! 😉

This neutral palette features 9 blendable shades that can effortlessly create looks for day or night. You can’t go wrong with this color palette…it’s like the Jackie O of eye shadows-so classic.  The colors have a range of iridescent qualtities, as well as matte finishes, so the possibilities are endless for highlights to add dimension or for a dramatic smokey eye look. Not to mention, it will last you FOREVER. I’ve had mine for over a year now, but just remember you shouldn’t really keep powder shadows for more than 2 years!

I received this lipstick in a monthly Ipsy bag at the end of last summer, and it has been a favorite of mine since. The shade is called One Night Stand (scandalous!) My signature, all time favorite shade is Anna by Nars but this has a little more pink/magenta tint to it. I actually like to mix the two together- it creates a really pretty color that’s not too bright for work or everyday use. (Although, the brighter, the better sometimes!) It’s only $5 and for such a bargain priced lipstick, it has a smooth and creamy texture on your lips. 💄

If I were stranded on a desert island and could take one item- it would be this. Or vodka.🍸😜 BUT seriously… I’ve been a fan of this item for 15 years. They’ll match it perfectly to your skin tone at the Clinique counter and it’ll feel like a second skin. It isn’t quite as heavy as liquid, but provides more coverage than just powder for a flawless, even tone. Bonus- it also has SPF 15. Perfect for the upcoming summer beach season!

I am super picky about mascara. My eyelashes are long but blonde, so I want something that will define and keep them in line without getting the tarantula leg lash look. Eek! I’ve tried a TON of different brands at every price point, and this mascara is by far my magic wand. It includes a primer on one end to set lashes, and has a really smooth, volumizing, lengthening formula on the other. You will not be disappointed! Promise!

This is a newbie in my makeup bag, but one that I definitely can’t live without now. It gives a sunkissed, youthful glow that looks so fresh- like you just got 10 hours of sleep after a spa day on a Fiji vacation. (A girl can dream, right?) I use the color Ballerina (how fitting!) and it’s very natural, while still giving you a highlighted look.

I hope you enjoyed my makeup bag must-haves! These products will totally simplify your daily makeup routine and can assist in putting your best face forward.  Be on the lookout for my monthly Birchbox/ Ipsy bag reviews! I just received my April Birchbox Friday, and I can’t wait to try these products. It’s gonna be a good one! Always remember this though:

Wise words from the style queen herself. Being comfortable in your own skin, and letting your inner beauty shine through is the best way to be attack your day and run your world! Because let’s face it- Who run the world? Girls!

Until next time✌️| Stay styled, sugarplum! 💋
